This site is mainly about the basic requirements for sensible Ringneck Colour Breeding. It also contains genetic guidance for establishing a sensible breeding program. I have included pages on the other, more conservation-orientated avicultural subjects that I have and care for.

I am a South African rural medical practitioner, practicing in the small town of Prieska, Northern Cape and also an avicultural hobbyist. I enjoy working with Indian Ringnecks, finding the genetics of colour breeding most intriguing and satisfying, forever held in awe by nature’s benevolence in providing us the opportunity to perceive and enjoy all the wonders of colours and the ability we as breeders have to control the colours and combinations our birds bring forth.

But my experience is that breeders often know nothing about the genetic principles involved! This ignorance is not their fault, there are very little sources of information on this topic available. Experienced breeders are often reluctant to share their knowledge and there are no genetic-based books specific for Indian Ringnecks available, only photo journals.

I am also enamoured by Amazon Parrots, finding them emotionally bonding with you and giving you a lot back while interacting with them. The same holds true for Golden Conures or Queen of Bavaria, arguably the most intelligent parrot. I am convinced that I am contributing towards Conservation as well as many of these are listed as Endangered. It remains a challenge for every breeder of these species to provide the optimal  husbandry and conditions to induce them into breeding successfully. We should always remember that our collection is completely dependent on us for providing them with whatever is required, from nutrition to protection and probably the most important factor, namely attention and love.
